THE FUTURE
15+ years of supporting The Cumbrians - what's next?
In 2016 CUOSC celebrated 15 years since the intitial formation of CCUIST (2001). Bearing in mind the current challenging financial times for everyone, including our local football club, we are more aware than ever of the need for an established and active supporters' trust representing the community.
In such difficult and demanding conditions, we are committed to helping the club survive and thrive. We are also keen to put into practice the government and football authorities' desire for greater engagement between clubs and their supporters. To achieve these goals, we are looking to grow and extend our activities in future. In particular we are looking at four areas:
Project Blue Yonder
CUOSC has been broadly supportive of the club's plans to relocate to a new stadium at Kingmoor Park. However we acknowledge the problems associated with this scheme and recognise the need to explore all possibilities as regards the potential redevelopment of Brunton Park and other sites. CUOSC will support any plans which safeguard the future of Carlisle United FC, provide improved facilities for supporters and allow for the club to fully realise its potential in future decades.
Supporting Carlisle United
CUOSC's major fundraising in recent years has gone towards repayment of a loan to pay for the final batch of shares in CUFC Holdings. We recognise this has limited the amount of help we can give to the club in the short term. When this loan is repaid, we aim to re-direct our regular donations into schemes to support the club and improve its infrastructure, encourage young supporters to attend and improve supporter facilities.
Extending and encouraging community ownership
Whilst CUOSC recognises we are not in a position to take a controlling interest in the football club, the time may come in the future where we may have to explore plans for such an eventuality. With this in mind, we are committed to improving the size and reach of our membership to better reflect the views of all United supporters.
In the shorter term, the CUOSC welcomes discussion to re-organise CUFC Holdings Ltd and re-structure the football club. CUOSC would not agree to dilute its present 25.4% stake unless there were sufficient plans in place to protect the club's major assets and prevent dominance by any individual shareholder. Additionally we would hope to acquire more shares should they become available.
Moving forward together
CUOSC supports closer ties between the club and its supporters, and also between various supporter groups. To this end, we played a leading role in setting up the CUSG (Carlisle United Supporters Groups). We have been active in developing joint fundraising initiatives with the club and other groups within CUSG.
